Concept

Phlebotomist App is a mobile app designed specifically for phlebotomists. This app is aimed at simplifying and streamlining the day-to-day work of phlebotomists by providing them with an all-in-one platform to manage patient appointments, working schedules, and blood sample collection procedures. With this app, phlebotomists can easily schedule appointments, navigate routes to collect blood samples, and submit them to the labs for testing. The app provides a convenient and efficient link between phlebotomists, patients, and testing labs, ultimately improving the overall patient experience and making the job of phlebotomists much easier.

Problem

“How might we improve the accuracy and completeness of patient information during blood sample collection for phlebotomists? ”

Solution

To improve the accuracy and completeness of patient information during blood sample collection for phlebotomists, the Phlebotomist App can implement the following features:

• Patient Information Management: The app can have a feature where phlebotomists can input and manage patient information, including medical history, allergies, and medications.

• Barcode Scanning: The app can utilize barcode scanning technology to scan patient information from their ID or medical bracelet. This can help eliminate errors caused by manual data entry and ensure that the patient information is accurate and complete.

• Real-Time Data Syncing: The app can sync data in real-time between the phlebotomist's device and the laboratory's database. This can ensure that the laboratory has access to the most up-to-date patient information and can improve the accuracy of the testing process.

• Photo Verification: The app can have a feature where phlebotomists can take a photo of the patient's ID or medical bracelet to verify their identity. This can help ensure that the correct patient information is collected during the blood sample collection process.

By implementing these features, the Phlebotomist App can improve the accuracy and completeness of patient information during blood sample collection for phlebotomists. This can lead to better patient outcomes, reduce errors, and make the job of phlebotomists much easier.

Background Research

Why the market needs this product?

In Cambridge Illustrated History of Medicine, Roy Porter said the importance of traditional herbal medicine is no less than the modern medicine. For thousands of years, plants have been a valuable source of traditional pharmaceuticals. Historical records highlight the importance of traditional herbal medicine in the treatment of infectious diseases. A report from WHO noted that around 80% of patients use herbal medicines to treat diseases. Therefore, using herbs to replace antibiotics and to recover infectious diseases is feasible, and it could cause a huge benefit for the patients who are allergy to antibiotics.

Target Users

Phlebotomists, who are medical professionals trained to collect blood samples from patients for laboratory testing, and working at different locations .

Interview

Our team interviewed phlebotomists who collaborated with our company about what feature they would like to add into the app, here are some key features we summuarized:

• A mobile app would allow for real-time access to patient information and improve the accuracy and efficiency of data collection.

• Features like barcode scanning and real-time data syncing would reduce transcription errors and ensure that the lab has up-to-date information.

• A centralized platform for managing schedules and appointments would reduce the risk of double bookings or missed appointments, making the job of phlebotomists much easier and more efficient.

Questionnaires

The Phlebotomist App was well received by phlebotomists, with 85% of respondents indicating that they would be interested in using a mobile app designed specifically for phlebotomists. The app's most desired features were appointment scheduling (83%), real-time access to patient information (75%), and GPS navigation (68%).

Respondents also expressed interest in features such as barcode scanning for patient identification (55%), lab submission and tracking (53%), and integration with electronic medical record systems (49%).

Overall, the feedback from 150 phlebotomists will be used to guide the development of the app and ensure that it meets the needs and preferences of its users. The project team would like to thank all phlebotomists who participated in the questionnaire and provided valuable feedback.

Persona

Competitive Analyse

As there is currently no mobile app specifically designed for phlebotomists, we conducted a competitive analysis of various calendar apps to understand the user experience and features that could be adapted for our Phlebotomist App.

We evaluated several popular calendar apps. While these apps offer useful features such as appointment scheduling and reminders, they do not address the unique needs of phlebotomists, such as real-time access to patient information, GPS navigation, and lab submission and tracking.

We also analyzed the user experience of these calendar apps, looking at factors such as ease of use, interface design, and customization options. We found that while these apps offer some flexibility, they are not tailored to the specific workflow and requirements of phlebotomists.
